Noah grew up outside of Chicago and attended Syracuse University and the Pacific Northwest College of Art. Cathy Johnson is a painter, author and teacher who grew up in Independence, Missouri, and now lives in a small town near there. She took a fun evening and weekend classes at the Kansas City Art Institute as a young woman, but is otherwise completely self-taught. She has authored eight North Light books, as well as Sierra Club Guide to Sketching in Nature, Sierra Club Guide to Painting in Nature, and writes for Watercolor Artist magazine.
