Review: AOHi 280W 6-port GaN charger

AOHI has released a new 280W 6-port PD3.2 GaN charger. Price at the time of review is USD 169.99 (usual price USD 239.99). The same charger is $10 lower on the Kickstarter page.

The charger comes with a display that can show date, time, weather, temperature and charging speed for each port.

An app is need to set the date and time. And pairing the app to the charger requires 2.4Ghz wifi. I had difficult pairing for several days and finally managed to get the app to work. The app makes changing the settings easier and you can control the ports remotely.

There are four USB-C ports just below the display. The USB-C port on the left can charge up to 240W, and the other three are up to 140W each.

This GaN charger is great for charging devices that require high charging speeds, e.g. gaming laptop.

On the right there's the power button which can be used to change the info shown on the display, two USB-A ports each with max charging speed of 22.5W.

Note that you'll need a cable capable of charging at those speeds to get the maximum possible charging speed. Unfortunately, I do not have any device that can test the maximum 240W charging speed from USB-C1.

The charger has a beautiful design and build quality is good.

There are two long rubber feet on the bottom. Heat dissipation is decent. Charger will get hot with charging but not scorching hot.

With a total combined charging output of 280W, this charger can be used to charge several laptops at the same time, unless they are all gaming laptops.

In the photo above with three laptops and three tablets connected, those devices are only drawing around 200W so the charger still has more capacity to charge.

After 60s of inactivity with charging, the display will show the clock. I wish there's some way to show the charging speed by default, at least let the user have that option.

This charger looks good and works well. Downsides would be the issue with app pairing that I experience, no way to set display to show charging speed by default, and no charging cable included.
