Review: Orico DockPro D7 9-port SSD enclosure

The Orico DockPro D7 is a 9-in-1 SSD docking station with high-speed USB-A, USB-C and SD card slots. Price on Amazon USA at the time of review is USD 84.

In the box, you'll find the SSD storage enclosure, 50cm USB-C to USB-C data cable, two pieces of thermal pads, SSD stopper and the user manual.

Build quality is fantastic since the whole thing is almost made with metal. Finishing at the edges could be more perfect but that's alright. It's not too heavy, quite compact, easy to bring around.

Ports in front are for SD card and Micro SD card, USB-A (5Gbps), USB-A (10Gbps) and USB-C (10Gbps). All the ports are labeled.

Ports on the back are for 1GBps Ethernet, USB-A (5Gpbs), USB-C to computer (85W PD), USB-C to power (100W input).

Downside or limitation to this docking station is there's no video out.

The dock holds one M.2 NVMe SSD.

It is possible to power the dock with one single USB-C cable if your computer can provide enough power. However if you want to attach multiple devices, external power has to be connected to the dock.

Transfer speed for this dock is quite impressive.

For the installed SSD and external storage through the 10Gbps ports, transfer speed is 850MB/s or higher, and that's fast enough to edit 8K 24FPS videos.

The 5Gbps ports are noticeably slower though at around 380MB/s or higher.

SD card transfer speed is around 90 - 100MB/s.

The Orico DockPro D7 works as advertised. It's a straightforward product so I don't really have any negative things to say.

This is good for those looking for a Thunderbolt or USB4 docks but don't want to spend that much, and don't need the video output.
