Book Review: Manga Muscles: An Artist's Guide to Drawing Powerful Male Bodies
Manga Muscles is 144-page paperback manga drawing book that focuses on muscles. The artists and authors are Syu Itadori, Kishi Ueno, Kiki and GomTang. Publisher is Tuttle Publishing that has also published many manga drawing guides.
The book is quite comprehensive with the anatomy coverage. The book breaks down muscles from all parts of the body, includes how the muscles stick to the bones. Different levels of details are shown, from lean guys to muscle builders, to body types that are only possible in comics. The book covers only male characters.
The text does a good job explaining the different muscle parts, and how and why the muscles look the way they look depending on how they are stretched and body postures. And there are details talking about how you can make your characters look more realistic and believable.
The last chapter has a few character designs with different postures, design notes, and how clothes look on these bulky individuals.
This is a great book for manga artists because it's packed with information that's presented in a clear and concise manner with many illustrated examples.
A Kindle version of the book is also available on Amazon.
