Review: Uperfect UMax 27 Switches (4K 144Hz or 1080P 288Hz)
Review unit provided by Uperfect.
Even 27-inch monitors are now portable
Uperfect has just released the UMax 27 Switches 27-inch 4K portable display in early 2026. This monitor belongs to the Umax series and I've also reviewed the 22, 23 and 24-inch models.
There are two main selling features for the UMax 27 Switches. First is portability. There aren't many displays this huge that are portable, and this display can be powered by a USB power bank. Second is the ability to switch from 4K 144Hz to 1080P 288Hz. The specifications of this display would suggest it's made for gaming.
The price at the time of review is USD 669 and the display comes with 2 years warranty.

Design

Design of this display looks like the other portable monitors Uperfect has released over the years. The design is clean, simple and generic.

The monitor comes with a kickstand which works fine. I highly recommend getting a stand to go with this display because the monitor is quite low when placed on the table. Having a stand will elevate the monitor to eye level where the ergonomics is much better.

Shown in the photo above is the Uperfect UStand that the company sells for USD 69.

This stand can work with 7.5 x 7.5 and 10 x 10cm VESA mount, and works with the UMax 27 Switches.
If you have intention to bring the monitor around often, screwing and unscrewing the stand may be an inconvenience. If you want to buy a tablet stand for this display, make sure to get one where the hook is wide enough to hold at least 2cm of thickness. Most tablet stands won't have such huge hooks.

These are the buttons for OSD menu. Navigating the OSD menu with these buttons will take some time to get used to. There are shortcuts to adjusting brightness and volume. Yes, this monitor has speakers and the audio sounds hollow, which is not surprising.

Ports are located on the left when you're facing the monitor. Ports are full-size HDMI, full-size DisplayPort, and two USB-C video ports.

Back of the monitor is matte textured metal, and quite susceptible to fingerprints.

The kickstand has to be lifted before you can access the OSD buttons and ports. The kickstand is stiff and strong enough to hold the monitor. There are rubber feet beneath the kickstand and monitor with good grip on the table.
Display

The company advertises 104% sRGB colour support and 530 nits brightness.
With a Spyder X2 colour calibrator, I measured colour support for 94% sRGB, 69% NTSC, 73% AdobeRGB, 75% P3 and a maximum brightness of 308 nits.
Colours do look alright out of the box, but not at the levels that were advertised. Brightness is sufficiently bright for me as I usually use my monitor at 150 nits.
Viewing angle is affected by IPS glow. When looking at the display from the side, there will be some shadowing effect on the far edge. It's not that obvious but once you see it you'll know what you're looking at.
The colour quality is alright for office type work and gaming.
OSD

OSD has many settings for adjustment. You can adjust brightness, contrast, sharpness, RGB and more.
Performance
Most computer should be able to run 4K resolution without issues. As to whether you can run 4K at 144Hz smoothly will depend on how powerful your graphics card is, and the cable connection used.

27-inch 4K is not a good combo for Mac users. MacOS will create a 5K resolution and downsamples to create sharp visuals. This will use more resources than necessary and with my M1 Mac Mini from 2020 I could see sluggish performance when editing videos. When connected to my M2 Pro Macbook Pro with better GPU performance, there wasn't any problem with sluggish performance or lag.
In the photo above, I was using a power bank to power then display.

It is possible to use your own charger or power bank as long as it can provide enough power, in this case around 70W from what I've measured.
Conclusion
The Uperfect UMax 27 Switches is an interesting monitor mostly because it's a huge display that's designed to be portable. I'm not sure how practical a portable 27-inch display is but if you need one, one exists now.

I'm not sure about the secondary feature of 4K 144Hz and 1080P 288Hz switching. The 288Hz high frame rate will probably benefit those who play shooter games. As for me 144Hz is already more than high enough. By the way, you'll need a really powerful GPU to play games at 4K.
This display is a niche product and you'll know instantly whether you'll need it or not.
If you don't need the portability, it will be better to get a proper desktop monitor which will give you better specifications and performance.
