The art and design of Assassin's Creed has always be a delight to look at. I love the character designs and environment art. And I'm happy to see that this book is packed with them.
This is a large 208-page hardcover artbook that collects the concept art for Assassin's Creed Odyssey (2018).
Bulk of the book are on character designs and environment art, with some pages on the weapons and props like ships, frescoes, banners, textures and materials. The character and costume designs look fantastic and at times really detailed.
The environment paintings are gorgeous. You get to see the artist interpretation of ancient Greek mythology, the creatures and the world. The attention to details for the architecture style is amazing. There's this sense of awe that's captured and portrayed really well. Some of art for the architecture and buildings reminds me of those renderings from architecture books. The sense of realism is incredible.
The art is actually a mix of concept art and game stills. Normally I don't like screen shots from games in artbooks, but in this book, those game stills look just as good as the concept art.
Here's the list of chapters included:
- Battle of Thermopylae
- Life at Sea
- First Civilization
When I look at the environment art, there's this immersive feeling that makes me feel like I'm there. Gamers will understand.
This is a fantastic companion artbook for the game. Highly recommended to the fans and those who love concept art.
