Review: ESR Shift iPad Pro keyboard case
Review sample provided by ESR Tech
The ESR Shift iPad Pro keyboard case was released in August 2025. This is the third keyboard case that I've reviewed from ESR Tech and I like this the best. The earlier two are the ESR Rebound 360 with the laptop like design, and the ESR Ascend with a kickstand that's attached to the keyboard case.
Price starts from USD 82.99.
The ESR Shift keyboard case features a case with built-in kickstand and a detachable Bluetooth keyboard. This allows you to use the keyboard away from the iPad.
Things included
Design
Build quality feels good enough even though everything is made with plastic. The back of the case has an elastic pouch for storing the Apple Pencil.
The case protects all sides of the tablet, and there's a built-in kickstand behind which is quite convenient.
The case and keyboard cover are matte textured and feels nice. I've a feeling the matte surface may get worn down more easily with usage over time.
The sides of the keyboard cover are curved slightly to let you pickup the keyboard case more easily.
The alignment for the case and keyboard cover matches. I'm actually not sure if there are magnets for the case and keyboard cover but they do snap close together though not with the usual magnetic attraction.
Cutouts for the speakers and USB-C port are precise. I do not know the weight of the case but it's heavy. By the way, all keyboard cases for iPads are heavy, and this one should be slightly lighter than those laptop-style keyboard cases, e.g. Apple Magic Keyboard.
The case also supports Apple Pencil charging.
I like this design because I can detach the tablet and put it on my tablet stand, and use the keyboard away from the tablet, just like a typical desktop setup. This is not possible with the ESR Rebound 360, and with the ESR Ascend the attached kickstand to the keyboard gets in the way.
The keyboard for the 13-inch iPad Pro is full-size without any small keys. There's also a row of function key shortcuts. There is backlight for the keys.
Overall typing experience feels breezy. There's good travel and feedback. The keys do not feel flimsy. Touchpad is big and supports finger gestures.
This seems like a well made keyboard case that's very functional. You can detach the tablet to use it along, handheld or with the kickstand, or attach it to the keyboard for better faster typing. I definitely recommend this over the ESR Ascend if you're looking for a keyboard case with a kickstand.
