Book Review: Sun Tzu's Art of War: The Manga Edition: The Full Story Behind Sun Tzu's Masterpiece!

Sun Tzu's Art of War: Manga Edition is a 496-page paperback that looks at the backstory of Sun Tzu, starting just before he was born to when he became a general for Wu state.

The story is adapted by Japanese artist Takashi Momonari, and the book is published by Tuttle Publishing. This book is an English translated edition of the original "Manga Sonshi no Heiho Hyakusenfuhai no Jusanpen" which I could not find online.

The book starts with a brief history of China and the turbulent time of the many warring states, and of course a quick recap of the core strategies from The Art of War.

The manga looks at the life of Sun Tzu, or Sun Wu which is his birth name, how he became who he is and how he wrote The Art of Sun. There are many battles shown, a lot of scheming and politics, just like most stories about wars in China during this period. And the story ends with The Battle of Boju.

The book's a good read and is for those who want to learn more about Sun Tzu, military strategy, and ancient China. If you like stories from The Three Kingdoms, you'll probably like this book too.
