A viewer on my Youtube channel suggested that I check out the AmazonBasics fountain pen. I'm trying hard not to buy any more fountain pens but this one is just US $9.99 so why not?
The fountain pen comes in a box together with three ink cartridges (one's inside the pen).
Design of the pen is simple and clean. It actually reminds me of the Hero 501 and many of the generic looking fountain pens made in China.
Build quality is solid. The whole pen is made of metal. Body is only available in black. Nib options include Fine and Medium.
The ink cartridges included are very small and will get used up in no time. It's best to buy an ink converter so that you can refill ink economically from big ink bottles.
The AmazonBasics logo is etched onto the metal clip.
Top and bottom of the pen are very reflective.
Body is glossy and easy to hold. There's good grip from the glossy surface.
Since the whole pen is made of metal, it feels heavy, and heavier if you post the cap behind.
As you would expect with a budget fountain pen, design is kept as simple as possible. There's no design on the nib other than the size of the nib.
Also included in the box are some instructions on how to maintain and clean the pen. These are helpful instructions for those new to fountain pens.
Writing performance is good. The Fine nib I bought is smooth enough.
Ink flow is good and able to catch up with quick sketching.
For US $10, the AmazonBasics fountain pen is definitely worth the money. The only thing that can make this a better deal is an ink converter could be included.
At the time of this review, the AmazonBasics fountain pen seems to be only available from Amazon USA.
