Review: Nillkin MagicEase Keyboard Case

Review sample provided by Nillkin

The Nillkin MagicEase Keyboard Case comes with a detachable Bluetooth keyboard, and can work with the Nillkin SnapBranch Pro stand to create a desktop setup.

Price of this keyboard case is USD 99, and at the time of review there's a 15% discount that can bring the price even lower.

Things included

  • Keyboard case (2 parts)
  • User manual
  • Magnetic ring
  • USB-C to USB-A charging cable
  • 2x tablet back stickers
  • Alignment card for the two big stickers
  • 4x tablet corner bumper stickers

Installation

This keyboard case requires installation. On the alignment card is a QR code that can be scanned to show the installation setup video.

To attach the tablet to the case, you'll need to attach a sticker to the back of the iPad, attach the back cover to the tablet using double-sided tape. The sticker attached to the back of the iPad is to prevent the stickiness of the double-side tape should you remove the back cover in the future.

Installation requires more steps than just attaching the iPad to a magnetic case or putting the iPad into a protective case.

Design

The keyboard case is available in either black or grey colour.

In exchange for the installation, you get a keyboard case that is slightly slimmer compare to other keyboard cases that look the same. Other keyboard cases that look the same usually has an additional case for the iPad to attach to the backcover.

The reason why the iPad cannot attach directly to the back cover with magnets is because when the stand is folded down, there isn't much back cover to attach to the iPad.

The material used for the surface is PU leather. My review sample is still quite new so I can't say how durable this PU leather will be. But based on my experience with other keyboard cases, you can expect some wear and tear with usage and that's normal.

Attaching the back cover to the keyboard involves clicking two buttons together.

By the way, the iPad models supported by this keyboard case are:

  • iPad (2022 & 2025)
  • iPad Air 2020 to 2025
  • iPad Pro 2018 to 2024

When used together with the Nillkin SnapBranch Pro charging stand, you can have a cool looking desktop setup. That stand is a separate purchase that cost USD 99.

I'm using the 13-inch M4 iPad Pro and the keyboard is almost full size. Typing experience is good. Keys have good travel and feedback, spacebar does not feel filmsy. There's a full row of function key shortcuts. Keys have backlight. Touchpad is big and supports finger gestures.

The company has also provided this magnetic ring that you can attach to any surface where you may want to attach your iPad. If you attach it to the side of the fridge, you can attach your iPad to the fridge.

The back cover can be deployed vertically too, but the tablet will be tilted slightly to one side so it's not perfectly vertical when you look from the front.

Here are some downsides for the keyboard case. Once you stick the tablet to the back cover, it's stuck permanently until you remove and damage the stickers. The keyboard case does not protect all sides of the tablet although the company does provide bumper stickers to protect the corners.

Overall, this is a decent keyboard case. Whether to get this vs other similar looking designs will come down to whether you want the case to be slimmer but compromise if you have to go through the installation process.
