Book Review: A Week Sketching in the Galapagos

A Week Sketching in the Galapagos - 01

A Week Sketching in the Galapagos i a 60-page self-published hardcover featuring sketches from Sue Anne Bottomley of the Galápagos Islands. It's essentially a travelogue sketchbook.

The book's filled with charming pencil and watercolour sketches, some drawn on location, some from reference – the colourful fishes swimming among the coral reefs can't possibly be drawn on location. As usual, looking at the sketches just evoke the sense of wanderlust in me. That place must be so beautiful.

I enjoy reading the commentary that talks about the history of the islands, Charles Darwin, the animals and how they actually evolve depending on the conditions of the different island. On the dry island, the tortoise necks are longer to reach higher for more food. And there are plenty of sketches on the flora and fauna. The only thing missing is there's mention of 100 people population on one of the islands and there are no sketches of the towns which would be interesting to see, at least for me. There are sketches of people selling fish and other wares.

This happens to be the fourth book that Sue Anne Bottomley has published. You can find this book on Amazon and Book Depository. Links below.
