The Joy of Watercolor is a fun instructional hands-on book with 40 watercolour projects you can paint. The art you're about the create are as lovely as the ones shown on the cover.
Emma Block is a freelance illustrator living in London. She also teaches and conducts drawing workshops.
This book's a thick 240-page hardcover. It starts off with some basics you should know about watercolour, like the tools and mixing techniques, then jumps right into the 40 lessons. You'll get to paint flowers, plants, fruits, food, people, animals and locations.
Each lesson is guided step by step with clear and concise instructions, and visual examples. It's really easy to follow along even for people who claim they cannot draw. The subject matter is not that complicated to paint. And even the complicated subjects are broken down and explained very simply. The colours you need are listed, the techniques to use are explained in an easy-to-follow manner.
The subjects that you're drawing aren't drawn with pencils or any lines first. This style has a bright and breezy feel. The colours are vibrant and finished results look lovely.
This is a great book for those who want to pick up a creative hobby or for those who want to get into watercolour, but don't want to paint like serious painters. It's a fun and accessible book for all. Lovely book.
