Book Review: The Art of Ghost of Tsushima

The Art of Ghost of Tsushima is a 208-page hardcover artbook that comes with a slip case. The hardcover itself has exposed stitch binding that allows the pages to open completely flat.

This book is filled with amazing concept art for the characters, weapons, locations and scenes. All the artworks are extremely detailed and you can tell the artists have incredible artistic finesse. What I like are the environment or scene paintings with fantastic composition/framing, and there are a lot in this book. The landscapes are breathtaking.

Downside of the book is the type of paper that's used. The paper is the white non-glossy type. Most of the artworks have lots of black, and the paper is just not able to show off the details within dark areas. Much of the shadow details are crushed to just black, and not in a good way. There are supposed to be details in the shadows that you should be able to see but you can't because of the paper or the printing. This book is also available in Kindle format and the artworks certainly look better digitally with the extra contrast and details.

The beautiful artworks in this book are let down by the printing quality. Publisher Dark Horse should have gone with safer choice: glossy paper.
