Book Review: Mateusz Urbanowicz Uncollected Works 2010-2021

Sketchbook gem

Mateusz Urbanowicz is an artist from Poland who's currently based in Japan. He's known for his beautiful watercolour sketches and detailed background art created for animation studios. And he has published several artbooks over the years.

Mateusz Urbanowicz Uncollected Works 2010-2021 is a 176-page paperback artbook that's about A5-size. The binding is exposed and the pages can be opened completely flat. The publisher is MdN Corporation

This sketchbook collects the beautiful sketchbooks that were not featured in his other books. Most of the scenes are from Japan, of the cityscape, suburbs. Most are watercolour sketches, but some were created with coloured pencils and graphite pencils.

Even though most are sketches, they are all quite detailed, and must have taken a long time to draw and paint. The style is loose, colour scheme is mostly pastel with soft colours. The look and feel is idyllic and charming. The book feels very much like a travelogue.

This is a wonderful book that I can recommend easily. A Kindle version of this book is available but only for those with an Amazon Japan account.
