Review: Goojodoq AI Apple Pencil alternative GD 15 and GD16 with AI

Review samples provided Goojodoq

Goojodoq is still making Apple Pencil alternatives and there are now so many that it's getting difficult to keep track. When you search their online store on Shopee.sg, you can find so many pen models, from GD09 to GD13, GD14, GD15 and GD16 with AI.

The comparison table I found online only compares GD9 to GD14. The models I'm reviewing are GD15 and DG16 with AI.

The Goojodoq pens are designed to look almost exactly like the Apple Pencil 2 and Apple Pencil Pro. They are compatible with all the iPad models from 2018 to date.

The pens are sold for around SGD 30 and sometimes they even come with free gifts, e.g. pen holders. The pricing is very good, much cheaper than the Apple Pencil USB-C selling at SGD 119.

Main thing you need to know is the Goojodoq pens support tilt sensitivity and palm rejection, but there's no pressure sensitivity. In other words, they work just like the Apple Pencil USB-C.

If you can, try to get the pen that support magnetic charging, e.g. GD13 and GD13 Pro.

This way you can attach the pen to the side of your iPad Air or iPad Pro for charging, and will never have to worry about battery life, or have to remember to charge the pen.

If you use the base iPad, then you should get the pens with USB-C charging.

This is the GD16 with AI. There's the iPad and Android app that you can install to get software that support translation, transcription, recording and other features. I did not test the apps thoroughly because I don't find them easy to use. You can definitely find more professional apps that handle those tasks.

The Goojodoq pens work great for writing, so the writing experience is similar to Apple Pencil. If you want a pen to write on your iPad but don't want to pay too much for Apple Pencil, Goojodoq's more affordable option will get the job done too.

For drawing purposes, the pen lacks pressure sensitivity. So to get broad strokes, you have to rely on tilt sensitivity. Both GD15 and GD16 support tilt sensitivity but tilt performance varies slightly.

According to the company, you can get around 8 - 12 hours of battery life.

One important thing to know about such pens is the battery capacity is small. The battery should not be left in a depleted state for long periods of time as that can damage the battery easily. And that's the reason why I recommend you get pens that support magnetic charging. If you're someone who does not use the pen often, you should set a calendar alarm to charge the pen regularly, at least once a month.

Availability

The Goojodoq pens can be purchased from online store on Shopee.sg and the models are GD09 to GD13, GD14, GD15 and GD16 with AI.
