Review: Chuwi Corebook X 7430U laptop (2025)

Review unit provided by Chuwi

The Chuwi Corebook X 7430U is a 14-inch Windows 11 laptop released in mid 2025 and is equipped with the AMD Ryzen 5 7430U processor. My review unit came with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage and the price at the time of review is USD 399.

This laptop joins the Chuwi Corebook X lineup as listed below:

Bottom line

The Chuwi Corebook X 7430U is a well made laptop with solid build quality. Display is bright, vibrant and sharp. Performance is fast and smooth. There's an accessible empty slot on the back for you to add more RAM easily. Port selection is good.

Downsides. Touchpad is not as high quality as premium laptops. Battery life is just 5 to 6 hours with the 46.2 Wh battery capacity. Audio quality from the speakers is so-so, not surprising. The wireless network card "Realtek 8852BE Wireless LAN WiFi 6 PCI-E NIC" signal strength isn't good and that affects download speed significantly if the laptop is not near the wifi source.

This laptop competes directly with the similarly priced Chuwi Corebook X Intel i5-12450H I've reviewed a few months ago. The AMD version is the better laptop because there's a USB-C port used for charging instead of a barrel port, and the fans do not rev up randomly under normal load, and typing does not have lag while laptop is charging.

Design

Design of this laptop looks good. Build quality is impressive for a budget laptop. It's metal for for the cover and back, the keyboard deck is plastic but still firm enough.

The webcam is just 1MP so quality isn't good. There's no face unlock and no fingerprint unlock.

This 14-inch laptop is quite compact, portable, not too thick. Dimensions are 310 × 229.5 × 17.25 mm. Weight of 1.4kg is quite reasonable for a laptop of this size and build quality.

Design is clean and simple. Corners are rounded off. Chuwi logo is embossed and textured, sticked to one corner.

The front and back surfaces are matte textured metal and quite susceptible to fingerprints.

The back has a plate that can be removed easily to reveal an empty RAM slot. My review unit came with 16GB RAM and I can add another 16GB RAM for less than USD 40 to get dual channel RAM.

Audio quality from the downward facing speakers is so-so. Audio does not sound too hollow, and hence still usable.

Ports on the left are

  • USB 2.0 type-C: Can be used for charging as well
  • USB 3.0 type-A
  • HDMI 1.4: Good for 4K @ 30Hz (or 4096×2160 @ 24Hz), and 1080P @ 120Hz
  • USB 3.0 type-C with video and charging

On the right side, there are microSD card slot, USB 3.0 type-A, 3.5mm audio jack, and Kensington lock.

Keyboard is almost full-sized and has backlight that shines through the letters.

Function keys are by default F1-F12. To switch them to shortcuts, you have to press and hold F2 while laptop starts to go into the BIOS to switch the functions. Function shortcuts allow you to change brightness, volume, backlight, etc.

Keys are quite firm and have good travel. Typing experience is good. Keys do not feel too plasticky like those detachable 2-in-1 keyboards.

Right-Shift is not full width so that will take some time to get used to.

Touchpad is big and supports finger gestures. The textured surface is quite susceptible to fingerprints. There are left and right click areas, and thankfully it is still possible to click, press and drag something from side to side of the touchpad. The touchpad pad is made with plastic but feels quite firm. There is no haptic. I did not encounter issues using the touchpad.

Display

The LCD display has 2160 x 1440 resolution with 60Hz refresh rate. The display is glossy and too reflective for my personal preference but many would say glossy makes the colours look better.

The display is bright, vibrant and sharp. I measured colour support for 99% sRGB, 68% NTSC, 74% AdobeRGB, 74% P3 and a maximum brightness of 315 nits.

The colours do look good out of the box so calibration may not be necessary. Colour accuracy is good for creating visual content for sharing online. Brightness of 315 nits is more than sufficient for bright room environment.

Viewing angle is quite good with minimal colour shift, but has slight drop with brightness from extreme angles.

The display quality is really good considering the price point.

Performance

The performance of this laptop is fast and smooth.

I find this laptop to perform better than the Chuwi Corebook X with Intel i5-12450H. On paper, performance for the AMD and Intel processors do not differ that significantly. Intel has 8-cores 12 threads (2.0 - 4.4Ghz) with 45W TDP and AMD has 6-core 12 threads (2.3 - 4.3Ghz) with 15W TDP.

Intel runs at the higher 45W TDP and runs hotter. And in my testing, the fans would rev more often. While Intel does have slightly better performance than the AMD, it's not significantly better performance. Higher TDP also uses more battery life. Intel battery life is just 3-4 hours with normal usage while AMD provides 5-6 hours with less heat and less fan noise. For me, it's very clear the Corebook X with AMD is the better choice.

I measured download speed of 600 Mbps which is good, more than fast enough for several 4K video streams. However, I find the Wifi speed is very dependant on how near the laptop is to the signal. At further distances, my other devices can achieve download speeds that are several times faster.

AMD Radeon Graphics isn't that powerful for gaming but that's to be expected. With Hades II, I was only able to get 50 - 60 FPS when I drop the resolution down to 1680 x 1050. The laptop can be used for light gaming, but I won't consider this to be a gaming laptop.

OS and software

The laptop comes with Windows 11 home. I don't see much bloatware except for the Chuwi Easy Care app which monitors system health.

For some reason, Chuwi laptops and computers always require more time for Windows updates to download and install.

About that Realtek wireless network adapter

This laptop uses the Realtek 8852BE Wireless LAN WiFi 6 PCI-E NIC adapter. Do an online search for that wifi adapter and you'll see many people complain about dropped signal or slow wifi speed.

This laptop has slow wifi speed because of that wifi adapter. All my other devices in the same room have much faster download speed compared to the Chuwi.

There are four ways to get faster wifi speed on this laptop:

  1. Buy an external wireless adapter. I bought the Ugreen UX1800 (USD 20) which gave me 500 Mbps download speed while the Chuwi is usually around 150Mbps or lower.
  2. Try to adjust the wireless adapter settings using this, this and this. This did not work for me.
  3. Swap out the Realtek wireless adapter for an Intel one.
  4. Use your laptop near the wifi source.

Battery life

Battery capacity of 46.2Wh is not considered high.

I measured 5-6 hours of battery life with above average display brightness and that was much longer than my expected 4 hours, based on my experience of other Chuwi laptops and tablets I've reviewed.

Having longer battery life means the laptop will be more usable outdoors. And since the laptop supports USB-C charging, you don't have to bring the power adapter with the barrel port.

Conclusion

The Chuwi Corebook X 7430U is a powerful and compact laptop. Display quality is good. Build quality is good. Typing experience is good. Touchpad is alright. Port selection is good.

The performance is better than most Chuwi laptops and yet battery life is better, thanks to the AMD processor. Because the processor uses less power, it generates less heat, less fan rev is needed, hence less battery is used. And you still get the performance required for general use except for gaming.

The USD 399 pricing seems reasonable for this laptop.
