Book Review: SKEEN artbook by Zeen Chin

More wackiness from Zeen Chin

Malaysian illustrator Zeen Chin (Instagram | ArtStation) is back again with another stunning artbook called SKEEN.

This artbook is a 120-page paperback that comes with a slipcover. The paper used is thick, low gloss, high quality.

There are only 2000 copies printed, released in late 2025. All his artbooks are great so if you actually see them, grab them because I'm not sure if there will be reprints in the future.

The style of art for this book is similar to manga or animation with clean lines, flat colouring with some blending. Zeen Chin as usual has wacky ideas. The first few pages features a fictitious food stall called JiJi Chicken with chicken that's fried with flesh and blood, and of course the employees look devilish, especially with the unappetising green and magenta colour scheme.

There are many fun and wacky character designs featured. And since he's heavily inspired by eastern ghost and deity, those have made a comeback with some of the characters. The line art style feels so different from the painted style of his earlier artbooks, but they are still very characteristically Zeen Chin.

Another thing to note is the colour scheme he has used throughout the book just looks and feels weird, but they still work.
