Review: Logitech MX Master 4: The Good and Bad

Not a sponsored review

The Logitech MX Master 4 is the latest productivity mouse released in September 2025 by Logitech that replaces the MX Master 3 from 2019 and MX Master 3S from 2022.

Official retail price of the mouse is USD 119, and here in Singapore it's SGD 199. The mouse is usually selling around SGD 180 after discount on Shopee SG and I managed to buy mine at SGD 128 thanks to an amazing discount. The lowest price I've seen for the Logitech MX Master 3S is SGD 109 from Amazon Singapore.

Bottom line

The three main new features are the addition of one more button near the thumb, haptics for the thumb button and new body with less silicone.

The driver Logi Options+ has many features, and is easily a huge selling feature compared to other companies.

Downsides include the 125Hz polling rate that's quite pathetic when compared to the competition, but for an office mouse it's still acceptable.

If you work in a company where the computers are secured by IT departments, chances are you won't be able to install the Logitech driver to use any of the software features. The mouse does not store settings on the mouse itself.

The mouse is now heavier at 150g vs 141g of the MX Master 3S. It would seem like 9 grams isn't much but I can definitely feel the difference, and makes the MX Master 3S feel lighter and less tiring to use for long periods of time.

Logitech MX Master 4 is a good mouse, but I would recommend you get the 3S model if you can find it at good price.

Design

The Logitech MX Master 4 is a beautiful mouse that's available in either black or white. I've decided to go with the white model this time after years of using black.

The mouse is well made and build quality is good.

The mouse is kinda wide if you compare it with other mouse.

The mouse can be connected to three Bluetooth devices, and can connect with the Logitech Bolt USB-C receiver provided.

The first thing I notice about this mouse it's heavier than the previous model. The weight is 150g and the previous model is 141g. 9 grams may not seem much but I can actually feel the difference. Logitech MX Master 3S feels lighter and quicker on its feet (glide pads). I can also feel more weight of the mouse when lifting it to reposition it.

If I'm at a shop testing both the 4 and 3S, I would choose the 3S without hesitation. You can only truly appreciate a lighter mouse after using a heavier one. The extra weight of the MX Master 4 means I'll sell this away after the review and go back to using my MX Master 3S, instead of using the 4 as main and 3S as a backup.

Once nice design upgrade to me is the use of less rubber or silicone. The rubbery surfaces are now only on thumb rest and right side (4th finger area). Rubber can disintegrate or get worn so the use of less rubber is good. Actually I wish there's no rubber at home instead relying on plastic grooves or matte texture for grip.

Another design difference is the hidden thumb button requires pressing inwards instead of downwards to the table. This button is now easier to press.

The mouse now has haptic which is nice but it's not really necessary or a major selling feature to me.

The silent clicks are firm and feels great.

Scroll wheel can be free rolling or locked to stepped scroll. The button behind the wheel is set to change the DPI (up to 8000) by default.

Polling rate is the number of times per second a mouse reports its position and click data to the computer.

Measured in Hertz (Hz):

  • 125 Hz = reports every 8 ms
  • 500 Hz = every 2 ms
  • 1000 Hz = every 1 ms

This mouse has a polling rate of 125Hz which is fine for use with office type work and 60Hz displays. The polling rate is the same as the previous model. Even an increase to 250Hz polling rate would have been a huge upgrade.

The low polling rate is not a deal breaker since you already know this is an office mouse and not a gaming mouse.

Logi Options+

The mouse driver is called Logi Options+ and has many useful features.

The hidden thumb button, three side buttons, side wheel, scroll wheel and top button can all be customised. And you can create shortcut groups that load automatically depending on which app is active. Very useful.

There's no shortcut for Bluetooth device switch though.

Macros can be created.

There's this Logi Flow feature where you can use the mouse across different computers, different OS, installed with Logi Options+. When moving the cursor from one computer to another, there may be additional latency since this feature uses wifi. You can even copy and paste text, or files, across different OS.

If you have a compatible Logitech keyboard, you can use the same keyboard and mouse across two different computer systems like like a (virtual) KVM switch.

The Actions Ring feature that will appear when you press the hidden thumb button. This will bring up 8 customisable shortcuts and when you hover over each options, the mouse haptics will activate.

Conclusion

The Logitech MX Master 4 looks good and works fine. It's a well made mouse with many productivity features. The main downside, and deal breaker, for me is the weight which I don't think I will ever get used to.

Availability

The Logitech MX Master 4 can be purchased from Amazon (US | CA | UK | DE | FR | ES | IT | JP) and Shopee SG, Lazada SG
