Book Review: Panty Warriors by Weijuinn
With a book title like "Panty Warriors", it's not difficult to imagine what you'll see in this art book.
This is a 128-page large format hardcover with art from Malaysia-based illustrator Wen Juinn. The paper is non-glossy matte surface paper and colours are reproduced nicely.
This is kinda like a character design artbook where all the female characters wear panties. The illustrations are beautiful, fully painted and not drawn in the typical manga style with outlines although they are in the typical dynamic manga poses.
The female characters are as risque as the female superheroes you see from Marvel and DC. There is the element of using sex to sell the images but it's not the highly sexualised or deviant type, thankfully. Bulk of the book feature character splash art while the last few pages feature sketches and those sketches look so good that I wish there's a whole book just on his sketches.
The book was originally published in 2017 so I'm not sure if you can still find copies of it nowadays. Basheer Graphic Books (Singapore) do have a few copies in stock so head over to their bookstore or enquire online. Official retail price seems to be SGD $35.
It's a great book.
