Book Review: Making of Wakfu: Noximilian the Watchmaker

Making of Wakfu: Noximilian the Watchmaker - 01

This particular episode Noximilian the Watchmaker is different from other Wakfu episodes in visual style and creation. The story is about how Noximilian Colxen, the watchmaker, became the heroes' arch-enemy Nox.

It's a somewhat refreshing and strange break from the usual episodes. I thought I bought the wrong book at first because of the art direction.

This episode was produced in Japan by traditional animators and was hand drawn in entirety. The character designer here is Yuasa Masaaki. You can see that the designs are pretty child-like.

Besides the characters, there are also storyboard art, background drawings, and designs for the workshop and clock. Some intricate sets are created in 3D and then blended into the animation. There are lots of accompanying commentary and anecdotes on making the animation. Language is in French and English.
