Book Review: How to Paint Landscapes Quickly and Beautifully in Watercolor and Gouache
Nathan Fowkes is an accomplished artist whose client includes Disney, Blue Sky and Disney. He's the guy who creates background concept art for big studios. His work is absolutely gorgeous so it's really amazing to see a book from him. He does teach an online course with Schoolism but that's more pricey so having a book is more accessible.
This is a 184-page paperback book features tips and techniques on painting landscapes. The book is more suitable for intermediate painters because it does requires basic painting fundamentals. The book discusses the thought process when it comes to painting, which colours to pick and the reasons behind. There are also several step by step pictures to show you the painting in process.
There are actually 115 pages of instructions while the rest of the book are galleries of paintings. All the included paintings and examples are beautiful and inspiring.
This is an excellent book I can recommend easily to painters who want to improve their landscape paintings. There's nothing like learning from one of the best landscape and concept artists in the industry.

Greetings Teoh. I'm learning
Greetings Teoh. I'm learning & working with watercolour now but would like to try gouache eventually. So a few questions please. How useful is this book for a person with no prior gouache experience to learn how to use & paint with gouache? How much of the book is devoted to gouache? Thank you and thank you for all your reviews and videos, I really enjoy them. Big help in learning! Cheers,
Mark

If you are new to painting (regardless of medium used) and want to try gouache, I recommend Get Up & Gouache by Jessica Smith instead.
The book by Nathan Fowkes is for intermediate artists with basic knowledge of painting.
Thanks Teoh.
