Yoshida Seiji is an illustrator and background artist based in Tokyo, Japan. He's great at drawing beautiful & believable concept houses and Japanese street scenes.
HOUSES WITH A STORY is a 128-page hardcover collection featuring 33 hand drawn houses with cutaways and the residents. There is a lot of text describing the interiors but the text is in Japanese. There is however a Italian translated edition available, but English edition as far as I know, yet.
The artworks lovely and look as if they were drawn with the traditional look of watercolour or markers but the artworks were actually digitally drawn. He uses a pen display and you can see his digital drawing process on his Youtube channel.
The cutaways of the houses are interesting as you get to see the floor plans, room layouts and furniture. There is a story behind the resident of each house and you can see the resident's personality through the items in the house, or how the resident makes a living. The overall concept of this book is really cool.
There's a good variety of houses featured. There are the usual houses with triangular roofs, but there are also lighthouse, tree house, water boathouse, windmill, tower, train cabin and more.
This is a beautiful artbook I can recommend easily, especially to those who love architecture. The book was published in 2020 by PIE Books and currently has over 600+ reviews on Amazon. This book has been reprinted 10 times in Japan since it was published.
