Book Review: Gwent: The Art of the Witcher Card Game
This is a fantastic artbook not just for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game but as a standalone fantasy artbook. This is easily one of the top artbooks of 2017 based on the quality of art featured.
Collected within this 248-page hardcover are the artworks created for the Gwent card game. The content is split into Monsters, Northern Realms, Scoia'tael, Skellige, Nilfgaardian Empire, Neutral Forces and Special cards.
The art looks terrific. Many are given the full-page treatment which are more satisfying to look at. Some artworks are squeezed to 4 per page which I can understand if not the book would have gone over 300 pages. There were a lot of artists commissioned to create the art and from the details I see, I can tell that no effort was spared. The world that's inhabited by these characters and creatures just look great. With many of the pieces, I found myself wondering what's the story behind those images.
Each piece of art is titled and comes with a short description, and sometimes there's a quote from the artist. Some of the artists included are Nemanja Stankovic, Marek Madej, Bartlomiej Gawel, Adrian Smith, Ilker Serdar Yildiz, Anna Podedworna, Grafit Studio, Alejandro Mirabal, Marta Dettlaff, Bryan Sola, Bayard Wu, Bogna Gawrońska, Lorenzo Mastroianni, Diego de Almeida Peres, Lius Lasahido and more. Many are concept artists from CD PROJEKT RED.
This is a very well produced book that's packed with amazing art. It's definitely worth the money.
