Garis: An Anthology of Sketches is a sketchbook put out by the Johor Sketchers. Johor is one of the states in Malaysia.
This sketchbook features the sketches of Taib Aur, Tok Rimau, Penglakar Lara, Jaie Ramlee (who's also the editor), Hafizal Nordin, Abang Bangunan, Buz Walker-Teach and Neil Shah. All the places sketched are labeled on a map that's included. Many were drawn in Johor Bahru, just across the causeway from Singapore.
There's a nice variety of style from the artists. There are loose drawings as well as very detailed coloured pencil renderings. All sort of architecture is featured and many remind me of the old buildings in Singapore that has since been torn down and replaced with high-rise buildings.
I particularly enjoy reading the captions for each sketch. The stories are what give the sketches extra dimension and context.
This is a wonderful book for those who love sketching and sketchbooks. The book's a 184-page paperback with matte paper and good binding.
