Book Review: Framed Drawing Techniques: Mastering Ballpoint Pen, Graphite Pencil, and Digital Tools for Visual Storytelling
Framed Drawing Techniques is the fourth book in the Framed series of instructional drawing books authored by Marcos Mateu-Mestre.
Mateu-Mestre is a visual concept and graphic novel artist with almost three decades of experience working with feature animated films. This guy really knows his stuff and it's amazing that he's willing to put the effort to publish a book to share his knowledge. His earlier books are all terrific and really worth getting.
This book focuses on four approaches to drawing, more specifically using ballpoint pen, graphite pencil, digital and the gray scale. Just like other books from the series, this is packed with practical tips and techniques. Lots of visual examples are included. There are step-by-step that show and explain the approach. His work looks really inspiring and now you get to understand the thought process.
If you learn something from this book that took Mateu-Mestre years to perfect, that would already be worth the price of this book.
This is an excellent book for visual storytellers, graphic artists and those who want to improve their drawing skills. Highly recommended.
