Book Review: COASTALVISION: Heavily-saturated Tropicália by Ardneks
COASTALVISION: Heavily-saturated Tropicália by Ardneks is the artbook that collects more than 10 years of illustrations created by Kendra Ahimsa, AKA Ardneks from Indonesia.
His style of art is characterised by precise line art with flat style vibrant and contrasting colours. In other words, his illustrations are striking and if you're a follower of his art, you can probably recognise the style instantly.
This is a paperback book with 360-pages. The cover has five cutouts that are windows to the art behind. The spine is exposed to show the stitching and also allows the book to open completely flat. The almost neon orange against cyan book cover already gives you an idea on what to expect. The paper used is non-glossy off white paper which, from what I can see, may turn yellowish in the future.
Arkned's art is inspired by cultures from different countries, and fantasy and he applies a heavy dose of whimsical interpretation. This style of art is not common, not for everyone, but it does stand out among highly polished digital paintings and character designs.
