Book Review: The Art of Solo: A Star Wars Story
Here's another excellent artbook from the Star Wars movie franchise. If you have bough the two earlier movie artbooks, Rogue One and The Last Jedi, then you can expect the same level of detail and quality with The Art of Solo.
This book's a large 256-page hardcover that's filled with wonderful sci-fi concept art. As long as you like sci-fi art, this book is for you.
The book's packed with designs for characters, costumes, creatures, weapons, vehicles, spaceships, interiors, environments and scene paintings. There are sketches as well as beautifully painted illustrations. The scene paintings are fantastic. The light and atmosphere are so nicely capture. Many of the paintings in the book would look terrific printed big and hung on walls. You can tell by the finished look of the concept paintings that this is a movie studio that really appreciates good art.
Some of the artists who have contributed art are Ryan Church, James Clyne, Iain McCaig, Jon McCoy, Neil Lamont, Glyn Dillon, Adam Brockbank, Thom Tenery and many more talented artists.
There's also plenty of interviews from the artists and staff. You can read all about the designs and thought process.
All in all, it's an excellent movie companion artbook. Highly recommended to Star Wars fans and sci-fi art lovers.
