Book Review: 横山宏 Ma.K.スケッチブック Vol. 1 (Kow Yokoyama Ma.K. Sketchbook)

横山宏 Ma.K.スケッチブック Vol. 1 (Kow Yokoyama Ma.K. Sketchbook)

Ma.K. is actually Maschinen Krieger ZbV 3000, a science fiction universe created by Japanese artist and sculptor Kow Yokoyama in the 1980s. You can read more about Maschinen Krieger ZbV 3000 on wikipedia.org

This sketchbook contains the concept sketches for that sci-fi universe, consisting of mechas, robots and human fighters. The majority of sketches are extremely rough doodles, squiggly lines with loose edges.

There are a few pieces where I can't make out what's drawn, or at least the form. For those that I can make out, the concepts are nice to look at, especially the idea of using animal anatomy into mecha designs. Ma.K. has several model kits but I can't confirm if there are any drawings of those model kits here.

There are plenty to read in the captions and the scribbles but all in Japanese.

This book is a mixed bag for me. While there are some refined sketches, the majority are too rough for me.

The art looks plane and boring. No design in the work at all. Blaaaaah

Hi again...

Is there any possibility of getting this book not from amazon.co.jo? I don't know japanese, only a bunch of english words you find there.

It looks a great book.

Greetings.

are u kidding me? these are hand drawn without editing of photoshop, if you're true artist this is treasure yo...

Are you serious in saying that the art looks plain, boring and lacking in design?? What do you want? a photo real painting that relies heavily on textures and photo bashing? Go to deviant art for that. A real artist will appreciate this book.

not talking about you Parka - i believe those comments were geared towards Jim Bob
