Review: Galen Leather Desk Pad

Galen Leather is a leather and stationary company based in Istanbul, Turkey. I only got to know of this brand as I reviewed their iPad Pro leather folio a few years ago. That leather folio is still holding up really well.

I had purchased this leather desk pad or desk mat to protect the table that I use to make Youtube videos. The wood of that table is soft and now has many dents from things I put on it.

The Galen Leather desk pad is available in two sizes: 32 x 18 inches for US $89 and 24 x 15 inches for US $69. Prices are not inclusive of shipping. I paid US $13 to ship to Singapore and it took 8 days, with delays, via Fedex.

There are 8 colours to choose from and mine's the Crazy Horse colour.

The desk pad was shipped in a cylindrical container.

There's a draw string bag included.

The company also included some freebies in the form of tea.

The leather is vegetable tanned 100% genuine cowhide. You can read more about vegetable tanning on Galen Leather's website. Leather products are by-products of the meat industry but still comes from animals so it's obvious this is not for vegan.

The leather is about 3mm thick. Corners are rounded off and trimming is well done with very straight edges.

On the back is the rough side. There's no grip but the desk pad is not going to move on the table as it's quite heavy.

It's a huge desk pad that almost covers my 80 x 50cm table. The desk pad is 81.3 x 45.7cm.

The desk pad has enough space for a 13-inch laptop, keyboard, mouse, phone and tablet.

The total price I paid including shipping is US $102 and it's actually quite competitive to other leather desk pads sold on Etsy. This is a pricey product but it looks good, is well made and I'm pretty sure it will last for a long time so I do find that it's worth the money.

On hindsight, I probably should have spent a bit more time to look for the 10% coupon code THANKYOU10 online.
