2025 best kids tablets for learning

I've reviewed many drawing tablets over the years and some of them I realised are suitable for kids and young children.

A good kids tablet to me should fulfill the following criteria:

  1. Can be used for learning. I prefer tablets that are not locked down so at least you can still install the apps you need.
  2. Pen included. So that the kid can write and draw
  3. Durable. Kids are rough and random, so the tablet has to be durable or has a protective case
  4. Reasonable price. Kids are not gonna care whether a tablet is $400 or one that's $200.
  5. Parental control. This allows parents to set the amount of screen time allowed, and lock down certain apps or questionable content. Android tablets can use either Google Family Link with manual controls, or Google Kids Space for automatic controls.
  6. User switching. This allows multiple users on the tablet. E.g. Allows you to share your tablet with your kid
  7. Display size. 11-inch is good for showing most types of content. Anything larger is a bonus but those tablets will be heavier
  8. Storage and RAM: Get at least 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. More RAM would be better. 128GB storage is sufficient for kids.

Listed below are my recommendations arranged according to my personal preference. I've provided several options as alternatives in case you can't find the tablet you want in your area.

Redmi Pad 2 (2025)

The Redmi Pad 2 was released in June 2025. This is hands down the best value budget tablet of 2025. Here in Singapore, you can buy this tablet for as low as SGD 253 from Shopee SG (where I bought mine), and that's around USD 199. The model I bought came with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.

Pros and cons

  1. The tablet runs on Xiaomi HyperOS 2 on Android 15, with Google Play Store with security updates until 2032
  2. Pen is sold separately but not too expensive. Pen performance is good for writing. Charging the pen requires connecting it to a cable.
  3. The included flip cover case protects all sides except for the top and bottom.
  4. The pricing is extremely attractive and reasonable.
  5. Google Family Link can be used to set screen time, lock apps and questionable content
  6. This tablet supports multiple account. But because this tablet is so affordable, you might as well just get one separately for your kid
  7. The 11-inch display is bright, vibrant and sharp. Refresh rate is 90Hz
  8. This is not an expensive tablet so just increase your budget slightly to get the model with 8GB RAM. Storage is not an issue as there's a microSD card slot.

A bonus is the 4-way speakers actually sound good. There are some minor downsides (see full review) but no significant downsides that I want to report.

iPad 11 (2025)

iPad 11 was released in March 2025. iPads are incredible popular so it's not surprising to find it on this list. In terms of value for money, they are more expensive compared to other options. Price starts from USD 349 and the USD 99 Apple Pencil is sold separately.

Pros and cons

  1. iPads runs on iPadOS and it's stable with many features
  2. Apple Pencil is great for writing and drawing. Charging the Apple Pencil requires connecting it to a cable.
  3. Cases are sold separately and easy to find
  4. Pricing is on the higher side. USD 349 only gets you the model with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. Add the Apple Pencil and the total is two times more expensive than the Redmi Pad 2 mentioned above.
  5. Apple has great parental control features
  6. iPads do not support multiple users. It's not advisable to share your personal iPad with your kid.
  7. The 11-inch display is bright, vibrant and sharp. It's not a laminated display but it's not important for kids
  8. RAM is fixed at 6GB. It is possible to increase storage but to add 128GB more storage cost USD 100.

The iPad 11 is overall a good tablet. Looks good, feels good, and sounds good. The main downside, and I'm not talking about the features, is the pricing.

Ugee UT2

The 10.36-inch Ugee UT2 was released in late 2024 together with the 14.6-inch Ugee UT3. Prices are USD 199 and 339 respectively with pen and case included.

Pros and cons

  1. The tablet runs on almost stock Android 14 with minimal OS features
  2. The included UT2 pen works well enough for writing and drawing but isn't as good as other tablets. The UT3 pen is not good for drawing. Pen has to be charged with a USB-C cable.
  3. The included case provides full protection on all sides, and has a holder inside for the pen
  4. Pricing is quite reasonable since it's under USD 199
  5. Google Family Link can be used to set screen time, lock apps and questionable content
  6. I no longer have the tablet to check if multiple users are supported.
  7. The 10.36-inch display is bright, vibrant enough and sharp enough. The display is overall not as good compared to the other tablets listed above. One selling point is the display is matte textured and does not have reflections
  8. There's only 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, with microSD card slot

The Redmi Pad 2 is a much better tablet than the Ugee UT2.

Samsung Tab S6 Lite 2024

Samsung tablets are pretty popular and 10.4-inch Samsung Tab S6 Lite 2024 is the more affordable tablet available. It's more expensive when compared to some of the other tablets. For USD 249 on Amazon, you only get 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, with microSD card slot thankfully.

  1. The tablet runs on Samsung OneUI on top of Android 14 with Google Play Store. OS updates are promised for 7 years
  2. The Samsung S Pen included is great for writing and drawing. The pen does not require charging
  3. Many third party cases are available
  4. Pricing is higher compared to other tablets given the specifications
  5. Parental control is through Google Family Link and Samsung Kids
  6. Multiple users are supported
  7. 10.4-inch display is bright enough, vibrant enough and sharp enough. Display quality isn't as good compared to some of the other tablets mentioned
  8. Having only 4GB RAM is quite limiting. Nowadays in 2025 you should at least get 6GB RAM or best 8GB RAM.

I would recommend the Samsung tablet if you cannot buy the Redmi Pad 2.

Lenovo Idea Tab Pro

The Lenovo Idea Tab Pro (aka Xiaoxin Pad Pro 12.7 2025) was released in March 2025. I'm listing this 12.7-inch tablet should you want a big tablet.

Pros and cons

  1. This tablet runs on ZUI 16 on top of Android 14 with Google Play Store. I've just updated this to ZUI 17 and Android 15
  2. Lenovo Tab Pen Plus is included with the purchase, together with a keyboard case. The pen is good for writing. Pen has to be charged with a USB-C cable.
  3. The included keyboard case only protects the front, back, corners and three sides
  4. Price here in Singapore is SGD 599 (USD 463). You can usually find this at a lower price, lower than the iPad 11 mentioned above. The price for this tablet is reasonable, but it's still much higher compared to the cheaper options.
  5. There's Google Family Link, and this tablet supports Google Kids Space.
  6. Multiple users are supported
  7. The 12.7-inch display is big, bright, vibrant and sharp. Refresh rate is 144Hz
  8. This tablet can be purchased with 8GB RAM, either 128GB or 256GB storage. And there's microSD card slot.
