Pictorial Sketchbook with Gouache by Maru Godas (online course review)

Maru Godas is a teacher, illustrator and urban sketcher based in Barcelona, Spain. Her favourite medium is gouache.

Pictorial Sketchbook with Gouache is her online art course where she shares tips and techniques on using gouache to create cityscape art.

If you like urban sketching, this course is great for you. If you're not into urban sketching, there's plenty to learn from this course to. Once you master the basic painting techniques, you can paint anything you want anyway.

The course starts off with her sharing her inspiration and influences. She also shows off her many sketchbooks which are absolutely gorgeous, stunning. She uses large sketchbooks and her art really has impact when you can view them at actual size. Now that I've seen her sketchbooks, the art that she shares on Instagram or Facebook feels underwhelming, even if they are the same artwork.

This course is for beginners and assumes no prior knowledge to making art. You just need the right supplies to get started, namely gouache, brush and watercolour paper.

The step by step tutorials are easy to follow along. Instructions are clear and concise. Examples look terrific. Maru Godas is an enthusiastic teacher and you can tell she loves art and loves making art, and can't stop talking about art. Note that the language of the course is in Spanish but English subtitles are provided.

This is a wonderful course on making art with gouache. Her sketchbooks are really inspiring.

Highly recommended.
