Puño is a Spanish illustrator, teacher and author who enjoys teaching drawing to people who think they can't draw.
Creative Drawing Techniques for Beginners is one of the online art courses he has on Domestika. The others are
- Creating Original Illustrations with a Tablet
- Drawing for Beginners Level -1
- Drawing and Creativity for Big Little Artists
This course is suppose to be a sequel or follow-up of his earlier beginner's drawing course.
First thing to note is this course is in Spanish with English and other subtitles. Normally I don't have any issues with subtitles but this course has a lot of talking which means a lot of reading. So if you're not fond of subtitles, then you can probably give this course a miss.
The first half of the course covers the fundamentals of making a good drawing. This includes talking about visual design and elements, storytelling, perspective, proportions and shadows.
What's interesting is some examples actually don't look right, as in they don't follow the basic rules of art, but on a whole the art is captivating and invites people to think or do a double take. I enjoy that part of the course but this course doesn't actually teach you how to create those thought-provoking art.
The second half has creative drawing exercises to get you warmed up to drawing. This includes painting to create foreground background, drawing portraits, drawing with a blotted ink style, and...
Creating mini-drawings based on themes.
Overall, this course is meant for absolute beginners in art. If you really want to learn more about creative drawing, I recommend checking out Adolfo Serra's courses instead which has a lot more examples on creative drawing.
