Book Review: The Best of News Design 33rd Edition

The Best of News Design 33rd Edition

This volume looks at the newspaper published in the 2011. It's a great volume that continues to inspire, especially the examples from the Gold medal winners. The Times of Oman has awe-inspiring 28-page tiled Ramadan poster. The year is marked by the tenth anniversary of 9/11, death of Steve Jobs and Japan's tsunami. I'm surprised there wasn't even more entries than those that were already featured.

The new digital awards is a mixed bag. The website designs aren't particularly exciting. What stand out are the infographics and interactive graphics which are only possible online. Strangely, no URLs are included for any of the examples given, making it impossible to visit those websites of single projects. I'm curious why for the tablet winners, only screenshots of the iTunes download screens are presented, but not the actual apps themselves.

Recommended to those into journalism and visual design for newspaper.
