Book Review: New York aquarelles

New York aquarelles - 01

I was unable to find any English edition of this book at reasonable prices so I had to get the French edition instead. I'm happy that I finally have the book, whatever the language.

It's interesting to see New York being painted in watercolour by Fabrice Moireau. They are beautiful paintings but they certainly feel less idyllic compared to the ones from Rome Sketchbook, Paris Sketchbook and his other watercolour sketchbooks.

The idea of drawing skyscrapers, the buildings of commerce, doesn't seem very romantic in the first place. Using watercolours can give an effect of juxtaposition. However, the pencil strokes and washes in the book are masterful, as always.

I've been to New York for holiday before. Looking through these images gives me sense of nostalgia. I wished I sketched back then.
