Book Review: Ashley Wood - Investigation 3

Investigation is a series of large format hardcover artbooks that feature the oil paintings of Ashley Wood. At the time of review, there are three volumes published by Editions Caurette. And since the three books are from the same series, I'll be re-using the same review for the books.

Ashley Wood is an Australian comic book artist and award-winning illustrator. He's quite well known for his oil paintings of tanks, soldiers, women, samurai and mechas. In these three artbooks you'll see a mix of all that. Note that the books contain not just nudity but also sex, so these books are considered NSFW.

The artworks, more specifically the paintings, look beautiful. If you are familiar with Ashley Wood's art style, you'll know what to expect. The blend of comic style and oil painting techniques is not common and look great. And if you have other Ashley Wood artbooks, there are more artworks here to add to your collection. The painting style is bold, confident and raw. The reproduction is done quite well and you can almost feel the physical texture of the oil medium.

All the paintings are reproduced huge in this large squarish 84-page hardcover. The paper used is no gloss matte, thick enough and smells good.

The price of each book is €35 and is available from the publisher's website. That may or may not include free shipping depending on the amount you spend and location.

I don't think it makes sense to buy just one book when there are three in this Investigation series.

And here are links to volume #1 and volume #2
