Etrian Odyssey, released in Japan as Yggdrasil Labyrinth (世界樹の迷宮, Sekaiju no Meikyū), is a 3D dungeon crawler role-playing video game by Atlus for the Nintendo DS.
The chibi characters for this game are just freaking cute. Even so, no details were sacrificed on the costume designs. The intricate armour and battle gear have all their parts and metallic shine.
This is a character design book. You'll get to see a lot of the characters and monsters, including the non-playable characters. Since the game uses a class system, the characters are shown in different iterations of their classes with accompanying concept sketches. There are a few splash pages as well as black and white inked drawings. For the enemies, low level monsters are included with the bosses.
Finally, there are also fully coloured background art. I imagine the original illustration to be extremely big since these are incredibly detailed as well. Each is lavishly painted with an accompanying line art scan. In some pieces, you can see every leaf and cherry blossom dropped on the ground.
My only quibble about this 112-page softcover book is that it could have been printed slightly larger.
This book is for you if you're into video game art or chibi characters.
