Micro transaction is coming to Adobe Creative Suite with Pantone colours now sold separately.
Old PSD files with Pantone colours in them will show up as black. That is evil because designers who used those colours at the time definitely had the license to use them.

Looks like an average smart fella can use an eyedropper tool on a paid pantone colors

The Pantone colours are actually colours created with specific inks which are can't be created with CMYK. It is possible to eyedrop Pantone colours but the technically speaking the colours are not the same. E.g. Shiny colours or extra vibrant can't be created with CMYK

It is called corporation greed. And that's what happens if one sticks with Adobe like there are no alternatives....
