Book Review: Figure Drawing for Concept Artists
Here's a fantastic book for anyone who wants to get better at figure drawing.
This book covers in detail the approach and techniques to figure drawing. There are lots of beautifully illustrated examples and reference photos that go with the explanation. Common mistakes and problem areas are dealt with so that you can start with the right approach. The book covers mostly poses but there are occasional elaboration for certain parts, such as head, hand, arm and leg.
There are also many suggestions on how you can improve your drawing skills, such as practicing in live figure drawing session and sketching from life.
Also included is a gallery that features the figure drawing art of various artists. It's great to see the different styles of each artists when it comes to portraying the human figure.
Lastly, there's a reference gallery with many high resolution photos that you can use for your own practice. They are also downloadable from the companion website. Note that this book has nudity which isn't uncommon for figure drawing books but I thought I should point that out.
I've covered a lot of figure drawing books and this is one of the better ones.
