Open Impressionism: Vol 2 (2016) features a stunning collection of oil paintings from Erin Hanson, a talented and hardworking artist from California, USA. Her first book which was published in 2014 is now sold out, so the only artbooks that are still available are this and Wine Country: Impressions in Oil.
Hanson paints in a style she calls Open Impressionism. It's a style with quick strokes, exciting colours and lots of energy. There's a huge variety of work featured in this huge 300-page hardcover. And it shows the evolution of her style and her growth, from 2006 to 2016. Her early paintings were good but her recent paintings are stunning. She just keeps getting better.
Every page in this book is filled with large prints to marvel at. I love the way she uses colours, the way she puts colours within one and other and sometimes side by side. Mountains are not just purple or blues but have orange and glow in them. I look looking close at the details and the textures created by the brush strokes. And look from a far to take in the beautiful view.
It's a really inspiring book. And when you consider the amount of paintings she has produced since her last book which was published in 2014, it's awe inspiring.
