This is an excellent book for those who want to get better at drawing human figures. It's packed insightful tips and practical techniques you can use straightaway and see results.
The author Kagan McLeod is an extremely experienced artist and a wonderful teacher. You can tell instantly by looking at his work, the examples in this book, and the engaging manner he writes in.
The focus is on using lines to creature fluid, dynamic looking figures. It shows how photo reference can be used or misused, and how to go about drawing with your own artistic license rather than just copying exactly what you see. The rationale for all the techniques are explained clearly so you not only know the how but also the why. There's a lot covered on the thought process and approach.
For practical techniques, you'll learn how to draw beautiful lines to present your subject, how to use textures and colours to make your drawings look more lively. The book also includes a lot of common beginners mistakes and provides the corrected drawings while explaining why some drawings work while others don't.
This book has so much information that it can be overwhelming. But that's a good thing because you can keep coming back to read, learn, absorb and get new insights and revelations.
I highly recommend this book. It's a must buy. One of my 2019 favourites.
