This year's 24 Hour Comics Day in Singapore was held at Lasalle College of the Arts. It was a blast. I didn't join but I was there to meet friends who do, and the sponsor some prizes.

I've always wanted to check out what it's like to be at the campus of Lasalle. Usually I would just walk through its airy cavernous atrium for a shortcut to where I want to go. This time, I managed to go up into the classrooms and explore, and even saw the office of a friend Hillary Yeo that I didn't know was working there. It's a fun place to be at, and the students are lucky to study there.

Here's what went on during the two days.

The drawing took place at the fifth floor of block F. The clear windows from the ceiling to the ground is nice.

There's no walking tour, but spectators are welcome. I think the students must be wondering at times who those weird people are looking over their shoulders.

The QUIET ROOM is actually the nosiest room of all the rooms.

This was the start of the second day. It's near closing time.

All the participants are supposed to go around and check out all the completed works, and vote for what they like. At the end of the day, votes were tallied to determine who should win the prizes.

This reminded me of Whale Boy.

This is Teo Kiki. Her's was a comic that needed her to narrate. She was the winner with most votes. I'll give her points for the unique presentation. Her character also has the best hair.

All the participants had to queue up to get their work registered, or so to say, and then they can have the completion or Noble Failure certificate.

The debrief

These are prizes that I sponsored.

There was this lady from NAC talking about the new Matchbox programme they have. I'll talk about it more in a separate post.

This year, there were more than 150 participants. Around a hundred are students from Lasalle. Even participants from the public has grown in size. So every year, they reach out to the same people, and by word of mouth, news gets around that there's this fun event that's going on. Here's a full resolution download (right-click save as).
