Book Review: Sketching Stories by Ian Fennelly
Ian Fennelly is an artist, instructor and urban sketcher based in UK. He's a prolific artist who loves sketching on locations and also teaches urban sketching workshops around the world through Urban Sketch Course.
This is the third book that I have by Ian Fennelly. The other two are Layers of Looking and Finding Your Inspiration.
I like this book the best out of the three because there are so many stories included. Urban sketching is not just about making a beautiful sketch but also interacting with the environment. I love reading the stories about how the sketches were made, the interesting conversations and interactions he had with passerby.
The sketches were made in different countries and are beautiful, detailed and lovely. I enjoy the loose watercolour and the caricature style of the scenes.
This book looks like self published print-on-demand publication. It's large format paperback with 182 pages. The sketches are wonderfully reproduced and the colours look lovely. The only downside is the sketches that were printed across the gutter cannot be seen properly as this is not a book where the pages can open completely flat. The sketches are lovely and I just hate that I can't see the sketches properly across the page gutter.
