Animal Logic is an animation studio based in Australia. The Legends of the Guardians (US | CA | UK | DE | FR | JP) is one of the big animated movie titles they have worked on. The film was directed by Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen).
This is a 160-page hardcover artbook self-published by Animal Logic. It's only available through their website www.animallogic.com.
It's a well produced book that has production quality similar to art books from Chronicle Books. Good printing on good paper.
The visuals for the movie are stunning and this artbook collects the concept art. There are character designs, background art, storyboards, sketches, colorscripts and other illustrations.
There are lots of different species of owls featured, both from the good and dark sides. They are beautiful. Owls always are.
Compared to other movies with animals, here they went with a more realistic rather than stylized caricature designs. The details are amazing, especially the fluffy feathers that you can almost touch.
I like the head gears, armor and weapons some owls were wearing. No idea how they are forged but they look great.
Owl talons are pretty dangerous by themselves and they have additional blades fixed on them. Those are truly angry birds.
The overall mood of the art direction is dark and environment paintings reflect that. There aren't a lot of green even with the Great Tree. Others locations are either cavernous or mountainous.
There are lots of beautiful artwork in the book. Recommended to those who like the visuals of the film.

Oh wow. You have no idea how long I've been waiting for a book similar to this to be made. After the movie was released, stayed in theaters and then quietly went on its merry way to the abyss of DVD and Blu-Ray, I was certain the chance for an art-book was gone for good.
It's very pricy though. I need to wait a couple more days before actually getting to buy it. Hope it won't go out of stock by then. Still, 75$ book+shipping for Europe IS a lot of money so I'm hoping the high price will keep it around for a while.

I luv this site, Parka! I sent an email to AnimalLogic and they said; "we are working on bringing our book to the public via some lovely local books stores in both Sydney and internationally. Stay tuned for updates!" Hopefully, in Europe before x-mas!! They also told me that "each book is packaged by hand from our Sydney office – no production line here!" Even by Sea Mail it would cost $35, so no need for me to 'beg' my friend in Sydney to send me a copy...still contemplating the book though...

Bugua... I'm not sure if you mean that the book did not arrive to you yet. But if that's the problem then I should let you know that mine took almost 3 months to reach me - but it did, in the end. I naturally emailed AnimalLogic when I saw that the 8 weeks had passed and there was still no sign of my book. And they said that the estimate had changed to 12 weeks and that I should wait a bit more. I got my book almost 2 weeks after I got their reply. It was in excellent shape (after all that time I was expecting a train-wreck). So yeah, hope you get your soon, too.

Of course the book is owl-centered. Do you have any idea what the movie is about?
If you don't like owls, you wouldn't watch this movie not too mention buy this book.
