Review: Alldocube iPlay 70 mini Ultra 8.8-inch portable tablet

The Alldocube iPlay 70 mini Ultra is an 8.8-inch Android 14 tablet released in April 2025. Price at the time of review is USD 279 on AliExpress which includes free shipping.

This tablet is a significant upgrade over the iPlay 60 mini Turbo released in September 2024. Improvements are:

• Resolution increase from 1920 x 1200 to 2560 x 1600
• Brightness increase from 350 nits to 500 nits
• Refresh rate increase from 60Hz to 144Hz
• Internal storage increase from 128GB to 256GB
• RAM increase from 8GB to 12GB
• Processor upgrade from SD 6 gen 1 to SD 7+ gen 3
• Battery capacity increase from 5500 to 7300 mAh

iPlay 60 mini Turbo is selling for USD 157 nowadays, and this new tablet is USD 279. Both are good tablets so which to get depends on how much you want to spend.

Bottom line

Alldocube iPlay 70 mini Ultra provides excellent value for money because it's good in almost all aspects except the speaker sounds slightly more hollow compared to the previous model. Build quality is good, display looks great, performance is smooth, battery life is long.

Just for comparison purposes, the iPad mini 7 and Lenovo Legion Tab (gen 3) cost 2 times or more.

Alldocube has sold many budget tablets with the usual limitations affecting display and sound quality, and performance. Their first performance mini tablet, the Alldocube iPlay 60 mini Turbo, is pretty good, and is still good even today when you consider the price point. The Alldocube iPlay 70 mini Ultra is an even better mini tablet for those looking for something better.

Downsides or limitations would be the speakers, lack of biometric unlock and there's no cellular option.

This is a tablet I can recommend to people looking for an inexpensive small powerful tablet. But if you're really low on budget, you can still get the iPlay 60 mini Turbo.

A charger should be included but I did not find one in my box. Anyway, you can use any charger with this tablet.

Design

8.8-inch display vs 6.9-inch display of the Samsung Tab S25 Ultra

This tablet is well made and feels solid. Design looks clean and simple. Bezels are thicker at the top and bottom, thinner on the sides. The 5MP portrait camera has no face unlock.

USB-C port supports 20W charging and video output. There's one speaker nearby, another speaker on the other side. The DTS stereo speakers are loud, and audio quality is alright but voice sounds slightly hollow but it's not that bad, e.g. does not sound too cheap yet.

Controls for the volume and power are by the side. There's no fingerprint scanner.

There's a microSD card slot but unfortunately no support for cellular SIM.

Display

The display is an 8.8-inch IPS LCD with 2560 x 1600 and 144Hz refresh rate. The laminated display is bright, vibrant and sharp.

The 144Hz refresh rate makes this tablet feel so responsive. Animation for pan, zoom, rotate and scroll looks so smooth. This high refresh rate makes the display on the USD 499 iPad mini 7 (2024) look and feel ancient. Seriously.

8.8-inch is still big enough for reading comics, but I would prefer a 10 or 11-inch tablet if I read comics, PDFs or magazine often.

Shown above, from left to right, are the iPad mini 7, Alldocube iPlay 60 mini Turbo, Alldocube iPlay 70 mini Ultra and Lenovo Legion Tab (gen 3). Display sizes are 8.3, 8.4, 8.8 and 8.8-inches respectively. The Android tablets have 16:10 aspect ratio and are better at watching videos with minimal black bars.

Performance

Snapdragon 7+ Gen3, 12GB of RAM and that 144Hz refresh rate all contribute to make this tablet feel so responsive. Performance is fantastic given the specs.

This can actually be considered a gaming tablet.

Here are the default graphics settings for Genshin Impact with the recent tablets I've tested:

• Samsung Tab S10 FE - Lowest
• iPlay 60 mini Turbo - Low
• iPlay 70 mini Ultra - Medium
• iPad mini 7 (2024) - High
• Lenovo Legion Tab (gen 3) - Highest

Graphics settings for Genshin Impact can be set to High and 60Hz and gameplay is still smooth.

12GB of RAM is good is for multi-tasking. Downside is the task switcher only shows one and a half app at a time, and you cannot choose to show grid view.

OS and software

The tablet runs on Android 14 and there's Google Play Store. The UI is pretty much stock Android without many features, but at least there's auto-brightness. I have to install Nova Launcher to get more features and customisation.

Some bloatware is included in the form of bookmarks to games that you can download, and these bookmarks can be deleted easily.

Don't expect any OS updates from Alldocube because the company isn't known for software updates. Not having OS updates does not mean your apps will stop running. Ok, there may be a chance that your updated apps may not run on old OS, but those old apps won't update anyway and hence will still run on current OS.

Battery life

Battery capacity of 7300 mAh. This tablet has even more battery capacity than the more powerful Lenovo Legion Tab (gen 3). Battery life is long, around 9 hours with maximum brightness, and around 12 hr with auto-brightness.

Conclusion

The Alldocube iPlay 70 mini Ultra is definitely one of the better mini tablets in the market currently, and the pricing is very attractive. The tablet provides excellent value for money and gets an easy recommendation from me. If you don't want to spend so much, you can always get the iPlay 60 mini Turbo. But I recommend getting this new model because the display is so much nicer.

This is a good tablet but there's still some room for improvement. Hopefully with the next model, there are speakers, biometric unlock and cellular support.
