Looking back at 2009

Looking back at my New Year resolutions from 2009, I'm amazed that I fulfilled 4 out of 5 of them. It helps that they aren't that difficult to start with.

Let me reflect on them one by one.

Do more art book reviews

I'm very pleased to be able to get my hands on so many books to review. Most of the books are bought and borrowed, with a small handful sponsored. I also met a new friend who collects art books. Borrowed lots of books from him and saved lots of money.

There was a month where I started hanging out at the library because I found it had a storey dedicated to art books, fine art, architecture, graphic design, etc. Unfortunately, the books aren't for borrowing. In order to review those books, I had to read them on the spot, take pictures, take videos (I'm impressed with myself with this) and write my review on my iPod Touch. If you see any of the art books pictures taken against a carpet, those are the ones from the library.

That library floor is amazing. The books might not be up to date but there are lots of old gems. I must have saved a few hundred dollars there. Good times doesn't last. Eventually I was discovered by a librarian who told me stop what I was doing. Apparently, they said turning content from physical to digital form is a violation of Copyright law. Can't argue with them, and it's not really worth the effort to argue anyway.

Highlight more art blogs

If you haven't notice, there's a link at the top called "Cool Art Blogs". It's a page where I feature cool art blogs. I post one daily there and on my Twitter page.

The idea was actually from Blogger's Blogs of Note blog.

I'm trying to find a way to highlight more art blogs without doing any writeup — saves me lots of time. This is primarily a blog on art related books. Besides, there are already websites that feature art and artists, like drawn.ca, linesandcolors.com.

San Diego Comic Con 2009

I still can't believe that I actually went to SDCC. I was there mainly to promote my blog but I found out that promoting it on the Internet is way cheaper. It was sure fun being there though. This year they jacked up the ticket prices again.

Draw more

This is probably the one which I didn't really fulfill. It really about discipline.

Get more readers

The numbers thrill me. Last year I had 300 visitors per day with 41 blog followers. This year, there are 1500 visitors per day on average! That's a 5 times increment! Blog followers grew to 595, well, in part because I had held a few contests.

I check the stats and they say that many are repeat visitors. Thanks!

Next year, I'll shall have new New Year resolutions.
