Review: AOHi 240W modular power cable

Review sample provided by AOHi

When AOHi asked if I wanted to review their charging cable with a modular design, I wasn't that interested until I saw the USD 99 price tag. The first question that comes to my mind is of course "is it worth the money?" and "why would anyone buy this?". We'll find out in this review.

The cable is compatible with USB-C and lightning ports. All the cable parts are packed securely in the foam. Presentation is nice. You can definitely see the effort put into packaging design.

The items included in the box are:

  • Silicone case for storing the cables
  • 0.1m USB-C to Lightning cable
  • 0.1m USB-C to USB-C cable
  • 0.8m USB-C to USB-C extension cable
  • 1.7m USB-C to USB-C extension cable
  • Extra nut/ring for the extension cable

No charger is included. If you need one, AOHi does sell chargers at bundled pricing together with the cable.

No USB-A cable or adapter is included.

The silicone case for storing the cables has one opening by the side. It's not easy to push the cables in, and not easy to see which cable is being pulled out unless you make a conscious effort to have the right connectors at the opening.

These are the two short 10cm charging cable. One's USB-C to USB-C and the other's USB-C to lightning.

These two are the extension cables each with USB-C female connector and USB-C male connector. The length are 80cm and 170cm.

All the cables are braided with striking yellow colour. The cable is thick and build quality is excellent. These look and feel durable.

The connectors are quite big and have solid build quality. One end of the connector has a light indicator to indicate charging activity:

  • Green light: trickle charging
  • Blue light: standard charging
  • Amber flashing light: fast charging

There is no charger included so the power output will be determined by your own charger.

The cable is MFi-certified and designed to provide the appropriate power to whichever device you're charging.

The maximum power the cable can handle is 240W which is more than sufficient to charge the most demanding gaming laptop, provided you have an equally powerful charger to match.

Do note that this cable is designed for power transmission. Data transfer speed is just USB 2

The longer 1.7m extension cable has a spiral design. Hopefully this will retain its tension and spring after months or years of usage.

The modular design is versatile. The cable length will vary depending on how many cables you attach. You can get 0.1m, 0.9m 1.8m or 2.6m length to choose from.

Conclusion

The AOHi modular charging cable is well designed, well made and works great. The pricing is definitely on the higher side compared to fixed length cables.

If you're looking for a versatile cable and don't mind the price, this is definitely one you can consider.

This cable is available for sale from the AOHi online store.
