It has been such a long time since I sketched outdoors.
Yesterday I had joined my friends to sketch at Emerald Hill, a neighbourhood and a conservation area located in the planning areas of Newton and Orchard in Singapore. This place used to be (maybe still is) home to wealthy Peranakan community and features Chinese Baroque architecture.
I actually made the mistake of calling these houses shophouses but they are not. There are no shops beneath these houses.
This sketch probably took me 1 to 1.5 hours to draw and paint. It was a hot day so the watercolour was able to dry fast and allowed me to work fast.
The tools I've used are:
- Pelikan M200 with SketchINK
- Custom watercolour sketchbook made by Amono Studio
- Watercolour: Azo Yellow, Trans Pyrrol Orange, Phthalo Blue GS, Cobalt Blue Deep, Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna
- Da Vinci Casaneo watercolour pocket brush
I'll put out a video soon my Youtube channel talking about beginner urban sketching tips soon.
And if you happen to be in Singapore, join out Urban Sketchers Singapore FB group and our outings.
