Review: Benu Foxglove fountain pen (Talisman series)

BENU Talisman series of fountain pens is inspired by legends and the mystical beliefs that surround talismans, amulets, and other magical items used to bring luck, protection, money, love or special abilities.

Official retail price is US$122 (not including shipping).

The Talisman collection currently has 5 pens, namely Mandrake, Dragon’s Blood, Peacock Ore, Fox Gloves, and Edelweiss. Each pen is said to be infused with a part of the substance from the namesake. In case you're wondering about Dragon's Blood, the substance is extracted from the Dracaena Draco tree, otherwise known as the Dragon Tree.

By the way, this pen is sponsored by BENU. This is the Foxglove.

The fountain pen is 13.8cm long, weighs 21g.

The cap is the screw-on type that comes with a metal clip.

Top of the pen cap is round. The end of the pen is concave.

Company's logo on the end cap.

The pen is made of acrylic with glossy surface. It's considered medium in size and is comfortable to hold.

The cap cannot be posted even though the technical specification mentions it can.

The body design is multi-faceted with inter-connecting rectangles with semi-circle ends.

There are many sparkling bits cast into the resin. And the resin and particles inside has this fluid look that you can find in many BENU fountain pens. The red and black colour combination looks great.

Dragon Blood has red, green and black. Edelweiss is teal and black. Peacock Ore is blue, purple and gold. Mandrake is violet and teal and is the only pen in this Talisman series that glows in the dark.

The nib is a stainless steel size #6 Schmidt nib available in Fine, Medium and Broad.

The nib looks good and the grip section is comfortable to hold.

These are the different parts when dismantled. The nib is part of a section that can be unscrewed from the grip section. I'm not sure if the pen nib is removable from its section though.

Pen nib is smooth on the paper.

Ink flow is good.

People who buy this type of pens are buying for the design. The writing or drawing performance is no different from other fountain pens. It is a nice looking pen that's for sure.

The Talisman series of fountain pens will be available from on 25 June 2021 from Benu Pen.
