Magdalina Dianova is a self-taught freelance character designer who has only started designing characters a few years ago. Fast forward to present day and she has already created a huge archive of beautiful characters and also got TV studios and publishers.

Her story of how she started out was quite inspiring because she had to go through different hurdles in her career before she discovered her passion for character design.

Drawing Appealing Characters with Personality is a beginner's course on drawing characters. Magdalina uses Procreate and an iPad for the course so it's easier if you use the same tools. But otherwise, the drawing techniques are universal and you can use other software or tablets to achieve the same results.

Reference photos are provided so that you can follow along and draw.

The course starts off with exploratory sketches where you draw characters from observation. You'll learn to draw facial features and poses, and also how you can stylise your art. This will get you familiar with creating characters before you start designing your own.

There are plenty of tips on how you can create a believable character by creating traits and personality. It does help to create some back story to characters before you draw.

The illustrated examples all look great.

Ultimately, it's really inspiring to know that the Magdalina took a few years to progress to where she is today, and if you put in the effort, you can do the same too.
