Artist Review: Spigen Glas.tR EZ Fit tempered glass screen protector for iPad Pro

Spigen Glas.tR EZ Fit is the tempered glass screen protector that I bought for my iPad Pro.

I bought this because the one currently on my phone has a huge deep scratch instead of my phone's display.

The other reason why I bought this is I was getting annoyed with the anti-glare/white haze caused by matte screen protectors. If you use matte screen protectors outdoors, the anti-glare will create a white haze that covers the display and make it difficult to see what's on the screen. And when it's really bright, the white haze is glaring to my eyes.

The main advantage of this Spigen glass screen protector is it comes with an installation kit for easy installation. If you don't need the installation kit, you can probably find similar screen protectors at lower prices.

The items included in the box are:

  • 1x tempered glass screen protector
  • 1x micro fiber cleaning cloth
  • 2x stickers for removing dust
  • 2x alcohol wipes for removing dust and finger prints
  • 1x installation kit
  • 1x instructions
  • 1x hard plastic for removing bubbles

The installation kit is compatible with iPad Pro 2018, 2020 and 2021, for 11 and 12.9-inch. There are also screen protectors under the Glas.tR EZ Fit made for other phones and tablets.

The installation kit is a hard plastic mould shaped for the tablet.

Installation is simple and straightforward. You can read the instructions or watch the installation video on Spigen's website

The screen protector is held by the holder. You just have to peel off one side first to reveal the sticky side.

Then turn the sticky side around and align the screen protector holder to the plastic tablet holder, then put down the screen protector.

The alcohol wipe is quite effective at removing dust and finger prints. If you're cleaned your display properly, the glass screen protector should apply easily without dust beneath.

If you have aligned the screen protector and tablet holder properly, the screen protector should apply perfectly aligned.

Image quality is not affected significantly, at least when viewed from the front.

When there are reflections, I noticed the reflections are brighter on the screen protector (right) vs on the iPad Pro display with its anti-reflective coating. With a side by side comparison, I've to give kudos to Apple because their anti-reflective coating really works quite well.

The glass screen protector will add some thickness but it's not going to introduce any parallax. In short, the will not be any gap between the line and the pen tip while writing or drawing.

The Apple Pencil is smoother on the glass screen protector. Not slippery, but noticeably smoother compared to writing on the bare fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coated display. For artists who prefer a more textured drawing experience, using this glass screen protector moves further away from that experience. Now that I've tried drawing on the glass screen protector and without, I appreciate the extra resistance on the oleophobic coated display.

Pressure and tilt sensitivity still works but this screen protector introduces wobble to diagonal lines.

This diagonal line wobble affects line quality. There's no such problem when drawing on the bare display or on a matte screen protector.

For writing, the diagonal line wobble is not a problem because people write fast and wobble is not noticeable when writing fast. But for drawing at normal speed, wobble is unavoidable and noticeable.

Since I use the iPad Pro for drawing, the diagonal line wobble affects my work and is unacceptable. This means I would have to remove this screen protector and it also means I've wasted US$21.99 to buy this. Sucks. I hope at least I saved you some money.

Overall, this is a good quality glass screen protector. It's just not suitable for drawing that's all because it affects Apple Pencil performance.

It looks like I may have to go without a screen protector this time and instead just use a flip case.

Hi,

Hi,

I was watching your reviews about a screen protector, and I wanted to ask you if you think that it´s completely necessary if you are using Ipad for only drawing in your house, not going anywhere with it (or in case you go, with all the extreme precautions) I have friends that draw with Ipad and say that screen protector is not useful for them, so they go without it... What is your opinion in overall for screen protectors?
